Quad

Design My workPublished December 2, 2010 at 1:05 pm Comments Off

Quad was a small project I designed and prototyped in DarkBasic Professional. The design was turned about combing older elements from shooter games with puzzle colour matching elements seen in newer, smaller titles. In Quad the player pilots a ship down a tunnel, the defensives fire coloured missiles at the player. The players ship can shoot and rotate 4 colours around them, players will need to line up their shots to survive. The difficulty and colour matches increase over time to challenge players.

Two modes were created, Arcade Mode where waves of enemies entered in a line from the sides and Survival Mode where there was constant action and only 1 life. The waves of the enemies started easy, but allowed for experiences players to earn big scores but knocking them all out until the harder waves that required players to rotate, dodge and fire all at the same time to survive. Quad never really made it past an Alpha stage. There is a core group still dedicated to the idea of Quad and are slowly working on a more updated version with new art, more game modes and boss battles.
